Lots of lots of air-flow here, I thought I would be safe. I've got 3 x 120mm fans in the case with an open side-panel in an air-conditioned room.

I'm thinking maybe the BIOS upped the voltages too much by leaving them at auto, but an 80C *increase* just seems insane. I'm thinking that might be failing, but it seems weird since it gives good temps at the stock speed (39C in Prime95). I know the Aguagate S1 is a low-end water-cooler, but I got a good deal on it and wanted to give it a try. The chip's fine, but now I'm afraid to overclock. I let it run for another 15-20 seconds just to make sure it wasn't a random spike, then I quickly shut the PC off and set my BIOS back to default. I sat there and watched it for about a minute, the temps leveled out at like 33C, then all of a sudden they sky-rocket up to 110C+.

My temp were at around 34-36C idle which was about what I was expecting. It POSTed fine, and made it Vista 32-bit no prob. I didn't change any other values (left them at auto). I turned off the throttling and other power-saver features. I had went into the BIOS, changed the FSB from 333 to 400 and set the multiplier down to 8 (from 9) to get 3.2GHz. So far so good.īut when I tried to overclock (just to 3.2GHz) my temps *sky-rocketed* to 111C at idle!!!!!!! I was using SpeedFan to read the temps, I also had CoreTemp and CPU-Z open on the desktop (nothing else) when it spiked up to 111C but it happened so fast I didn't have time to check the other readings. Temps at stock (3GHz) are great, I'm getting a solid 30C at idle, ~35C in heavy gaming and 39C load under Prime95 (let it run for about 3 hours). Also, I am using a Coolermaster Aguagate S1 water-cooler, which I believe might be the problem. I just set up my new rig, its got an EVGA 780i board, E8400 3.0GHz, 4GB (2x2GB) Crucial DD2-800 4-4-4-12, a EVGA 8800 GTS 512MB, in a Coolermaster Stacker 830 SE case. Ok, I've never overclocked before, but I'm a pretty advanced user so I have an idea of what I'm doing.
